I just learned something about LJ.
If you make a 'friends only' post, and then a bunch of people comment on it, and then you make it public, all the comments will be immediately and irrevocably deleted.

I understand the reasoning for this behavior, and I can accept it.  I just wish I'd known before I lost those comments.

At least I still have the email notification archive.

The privilege meme. I thought it was kind of silly and no one would comment. After they did, I decided it was worth sharing with others. Now, it looks like no one had anything to say about that, and I apparently deleted the email archive, too. Losing data is painful for a digital packrat like me, but fortunately this loss is very minor and inconsequential.

Public Service Announcement: Back up your data to removable storage, or preferably off-site storage. You'll be glad you did when your hard drive fails or your house burns down!
